and there is purpose after all

My hair is at its ideal length. It will be this way for at least five more inches. I do not need any bobby pins holding in the back OR the bangs when I put it in a ponytail. I never thought this day would come, way back when I started growing out the bangs in August of 2008. Almost two years ago. Weird.

My dove chocolate I had a few days ago had a message on the foil (like all do). This one spoke to me. ATTENTION ANNIE - this is what I told you about at Hyvee on Satuday.

"Do not look back and ask why, look forward and ask, why not?"

Lately the bug has been biting me and I want to move somewhere exotic and be an actress. Luckily I don't have money or the emotional stability to do it, but, you know, a dream is a wish your heart makes*. Or something. Yeah, that really didn't make sense. I didn't literally dream about it. I just wanted to quote Walt Disney*, there.

I still think I am playing catch up on sleep from the past week(ish). Can you tell I'm a little off right now?

Netflix has made me a television whore this week. Since I have it hooked up to the TV via my sister's Wii, I have been a couch potato. Okay, and by "this week" I mean yesterday and this afternoon. I guess I should say "so far this week."

I am correcting myself a lot in this entry. What does that mean?

Laundry is a never ending cycle at this house. When I was in college, I would do my laundry MAYBE once a month. (It sounds gross, but I have a million t-shirts. You would, too, if you were in a million shows and in a sorority) Here we do laundry about once a week. Which is nice, because I'm not really a t-shirt girl anymore. I actually kinda sorta care about what I look like. Which is interesting.

I GET TO SEE CIRQUE DU SOLEIL ON THURSDAY NIGHT.
Impulse decision my sister and I made yesterday. Love it. Check that off my imaginary bucket list. But really.

Now, everyone say a little prayer for nice weather on Sunday. @cratonica** and I are going to take World's of Fun by storm!

*Or...more accurately I am quoting Mack David, Al Hoffman, and Jerry Livingston

**Oh, yeah. This isn't Twitter. Oops.

April showers bring May flowers...

1. I love picking up extra shifts at work.

2. My friends complete my life.

3. Today I'm pretty sure I found a good candidate for a "first dance" song at my wedding. Don't judge; blame Pandora.

4. I think I lost my cell phone charger. Awesome (not).

5. My new medicine is a stronger dose and now I have icky yellow pills instead of the beautiful, bright blue ones.

6. I got a new purse and I feel like I'm cheating my other one...and I haven't even used the new one yet. Now I just need a new wallet.

7. Sleeping in makes me feel guilty, but it feels so great for my nearly crazy mind!

8. I HAVE A JOB INTERVIEW. :) (literally found out thirty seconds ago, while writing this)

i don't wanna be one more paper doll

It's late.

I have other, more important, things to do.

My alarm is actually set for once.

And I find myself blogging. Like always - at a time when I shouldn't be.

However.

Newsflash: it's almost May. What do I have to prove to myself? Two jobs. [Cool.] My own insurance. [Grown up.] My own grocery trips. [I kinda love them.] Managing my money. [Important.] Looking too much into the future. [Typical.] No longer thriving on the past. [Huge improvement. Seriously.]

Sure, I'm still at Mom's. I don't have my own place, a set work schedule, decent pay, or a job with any kind of stability or benefits...but life is GOOD. I'm around friends, family, and I at least have something to do 90% of my days. Who says you have to have a solid job lined up right away? Who says you have to have your life figured out right this second?

Taking time to breathe is fine. I wish I hadn't taken so long to figure that out. I've been beating myself up about that for far too long now. A little over a year, now, to be quite frank. It's exhausting and I'm over it.

But tomorrow I'll go restock the bubble bars and the massage bars and the shampoos. I'll have a great conversation with my manager and interact with unique customers and their adorable (or terribly annoying) children. And be glad I'm not there in my life yet. I'm still full of flexibility and possibilites. Deep down, I love the unpredictable. Change is what I'm accustomed to.

If I had a real job and real commitments, days like this [below] wouldn't be possible.

And THAT would crush me. I need my freedom, for now. My days for reading and writing and coffee-ing. These odds and ends jobs are where I'm supposed to be...in some strange and twisted way. It's fun. And you meet cute old men who tell you to never get married because you have to get your spouse last minute blueberries from the grocery store that is bigger than a small town.

-Starbucks because I had a gift card, don't hate.
-Yes, I travel with my Sharpie pens in their package...I am paranoid I'm going to lose them. I admit it's a bit geeky. But...I am kind of a geek.

P.S. My toes are coral and I love it. I tripped earlier and thought I had chipped one toe and I was like FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY [thank you Mara, for the phrase] do NOT tell me I have to repaint...because it's Jenna's nail polish and that isn't exactly easy to get to from the comfort of my own home! But, I merely took some of the floor onto my toenail, so the paint is in tact. Hallelujah.

when the morning comes

On my way home tonight, I saw a giant USPS truck. Instead of thinking "Hmm, I wonder how many pieces of mail/packages are in there" I thought "Wow, they must have ordered a LOT of stamps" ...what?! Weird.

Can I just tell you how much I love snail mail? One of my besties from HS and I have been snail mailing lately, out of the blue, and it's been FANTASTIC. She even wrote a letter to me on an old tea box that she flattened and the USPS SENT IT. Awesome.

Also, I love pay day. And Paydays (the candy).

What I do not like: (the aftermath of) overeating, my DVDs being out of order, my desk being messy, and cats trying to suffocate me in my sleep. Okay, probably anything trying to suffocate me in my sleep would be something I wouldn't like...but the cat thing happened this morning so...yeah.

And it wasn't so much that she was TRYING to suffocate me, but my face ended up being where she felt most comfortable lounging on. Whoops, sorry kitty, find somewhere else to sleep. Like in the bend of my knees (a REALLY popular spot, I tell you - one was sleeping there when I woke up, then she moved and IMMEDIATELY the other one snuggled into that spot...the bend it my knees is magical).

Despite the suffocating and midnight awkward cuddling, I really love those darn cats. They are lovely and I wish I could have one. But that would be expensive, require responsibility, and cause problems when hanging out with my boyfriend. I mean, I would cuddle with the cat more and said cat would make him sneeze and wheeze. Lose-Lose.

Something else I really don't like: when lightbulbs need replacing. Not when they burn out, though, because I think it sounds and looks cool. Once they need to be replaced, though...annoyed.

One of mine has been burnt out since, oh, about six months ago. Er, actually, more like nine months ago. It wasn't that long after I moved in here.

Remember this time last year when I still had no idea where I wanted to be after I graduated? Hm...familiar circumstance.

you should stay all my life

I should be in bed. Tomorrow is my first day at my new job. Oo-oo! It'll be a long one, but so fun. After all, I get to hang out with Annie all the live long day. It will be awesome.

Aerie sent me my reward card. 15% off soon. I need to check out the selection.

Thirty nine days.

Also, I made a list of things to do this summer with Clint & friends. There are enough that if I did one each day from May 24th on, it would be Clint's birthday when we finally ran out of things. Needless to say, our work is cut out for us.

See...a list like that is what I do since I still don't have much of a life. Although, today is the first day in a week or two when I have had no obligations...so that was weird.

I really, really want a massage. Like, legit at a place. Also, my pinky on my right hand has been randomly going to sleep today. Ideas?

Dear Ingrid Michaelson,
Please release your other tour dates and make one of them near me. Pretty please. With a cherry on top. Or your fave topping. Yes.
Love,
Laura

Guys. We got new stuff at Lush and it rocks. Come see it. And try it out. And fall in love. And just visit me because I work Saturday afternoon and pretty much all of Sunday. Gotta love retail.

In other news: I love my friends.

always wonderin'

There are times when I wonder what life is about. What really matters. What I want to do.

Then I realize that all of those things drive me crazy and make me feel bad about myself so I stop.

Tomorrow I want to go camp out in a coffee shop for a large chunk of time and write. About anything and everything. Then read this stinkin' book I started over a month ago one day, and haven't even touched it since.

(If I type it on here, it makes me more likely to do it than to sleep in or something, thus, you get to know what I want to do.)

Other than the future being undetermined, I love my life. Mainly for three(ish) reasons. Kind of. I just made that number up. But one reason is just glaringly obvious to me right now.

Another reason, let's say...reason number four, is that is it FINALLY NICE OUTSIDE. The only downside is that I had to get a new kind of deodorant a few weeks ago, and I'm pretty sure it doesn't work because I smell.

Overshare? Probably. But you are the one choosing to read my blog, and if you are my friend you know I am an oversharer. I just like to tell stories.

WHICH IS WHY I want to write a novel or two or five or have a blog for all of eternity.

Okay. Clearly, I need to go to bed. I had too much ice cream tonight.

[insert Clint's dairy joke here.]

WELL, HAVE A NAP, ZEN FIRE ZE MISSILES!

...right-o.

stand up and thank her

Complaining: If you offer to do my laundry, do not take a week and a half to do it. Or...to do half of it and leave the rest in the middle of our house. I will run out of underwear soon. AND I had my heart set on eating a bagel for lunch but they were COVERED IN MOLD. Sickoutnasty. I am allergic to mold. I almost DIED (not really, but it was grosstastic and sad).

Rejoicing: It is spring! I'm going to NYC in October! I love life!

Okay. Well...I guess that's it.

Except, remember that if you have those little censor things at the bottom of your garage to keep the door from smashing small children, that they are really sensitive and if you leave the house for two hours, your garage door will just be open. With no cars in the garage, and asking to be robbed.

But, I hope you live in a neighborhood of oldies, like me, so you actually don't get robbed. Because that's what happened to me today. Awesome.

It's that time of year when I need to paint my toe nails.
